Glossy, lustrous hair is often equated with femininity, youth and health, so when a woman loses hers, it can have a profound effect on her sense of self. Research shows that more than half of women over 50 will experience thinning hair. Those who do can feel uncertain of what to do, with many worrying it isn’t a real medical problem, but loss of confidence due to hair loss can have a massive impact. It’s why this study found that, following hair loss, people experienced sadness, embarrassment, frustration, helplessness and anxiety. Many limited their social activities and avoided family occasions.
